Dr. Nick Barin, PT, DPT, OCS, Cert-CMFA has been practicing physical therapy in the outpatient orthopedic setting since 2014. His interests in physical therapy started after dealing with shoulder and lower extremity injuries playing volleyball in high school as well as during his years playing club volleyball at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. While in Madison he earned his bachelor’s degree in Dietetics through the Department of Nutritional Sciences and obtained his Doctor of Physical Therapy at Clarke University.
Nick is a board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist by the American Physical Therapy Association and has obtained his certification in the Clinical Management of Fitness Athletes through the Institute of Clinical Excellence. He is trained to provide manual therapy techniques including myofascial release, joint mobilizations and manipulations while while also prescribing the appropriate therapeutic exercises required to assist his patients in returning to their prior level of activity and fitness.
Nick’s treatment philosophy derives from his clinical experiences within the sports medicine and orthopedic fields and draws from evidence-based practice guidelines. He focuses on dysfunctional movement patterns and how different anatomical regions of the body can play a role in finding the source and the cause of pain. He enjoys working with a wide variety of patients, but particularly enjoys working within the sports medicine field. His interests include working with CrossFit athletes, weightlifters, overhead athletes and recreational runners.
Nick is a native of Chicago and enjoys watching the Bears, Bulls and Cubs while having more than a couple slices of deep dish pizza. He enjoys traveling, spending time with his nieces and nephews, as well as finding new places in San Diego to grab a good meal. He also likes to stay active by participating in CrossFit, playing volleyball and hiking.

Dr. McKenzie Kehr began her journey in physical therapy with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Pre Physical Therapy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She then advanced her expertise by earning a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Southern California, where she mastered modern and advanced techniques in sports rehabilitation.
Dr. Kehr’s extensive experience includes working in a variety of settings, notably a clinical rotation with the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball. In this role, she worked with professional baseball players, managing their injuries, guiding their rehabilitation, and implementing cutting-edge injury prevention strategies.

During his time at Cal State San Marcos he also earned his B.S in Kinesiology with a focus in physical therapy. Derek received his Bachelors of Science in Applied Health Science From Point Loma Nazarene University. During his time at PLNU, Derek also played on the university’s baseball team where he battled a variety of injuries which helped him grow an appreciation and love for Physical Therapy. After earning his bachelors degree, Derek attended the University of Southern California where he earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy and became a licensed Physical Therapist. Derek is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and has experience training and rehabbing a variety of athletes - including many professional baseball players. Derek has experience in Major League Baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers and also a variety of sports medicine settings that treat high level athletes.
